Cultural Property No. 82(built in 1131) Beopcheonsa Mokwooam, located on the outskirts of Mt. Seungdal , was a Buddhist temple built in the year 725 (year 24 of King Seongdeok of the Shilla Dynasty), by priest Jeongmyeong from the nation of Geumji, located west of China . Since then, it is said to have been refined by the priest Yuan Ming from Imchunsa of China, between the times of King Injong and Uijong. According to legend, priest Yuan Ming saw in his dreams a cow come out from the main temple at Mt. Baekwoon and enter this temple. Upon awaking, the priest thought about the strange dream and went to the temple. There he saw footprints of cows that lead along the creek bed and over some rocks. He followed the footprints and decided to build the temple at the spot where the footprints ended. Hence the name Mookwooam ( Cow Breeding Temple ) came to be. Other stories tell of how priest Wonmyung built a temple from grass. On the grounds of the temple there are the Beopdang Yosachae, Chuk Sung Gak, stone lantern, and Budo. In particular, the Buddha statue enshrined within the Mokwooam sanctuary has been designated as local cultural treasure number 172. Then walk to the direction of Dalsan-ri about thirty minutes. The temple is located about 1 kilometer away from Mongtan-myeon.
