A guy whose family name is Gimhae Kim is known to have first lived in the island. The island got its name because he found that there was a lot of coal in the island.
Rice, beans, garlics, radishes, spinach, onions, sesame are produced in Tando. Crabs, Shrimps, basses, abalones are caught at the nearby sea. There is a ship bound for Tando at Jogeumnaro, Songhyeon-ri, Mangun-myeon. The Island is 2.5 kilometers away from the port. The elementary school in Tando was shut down in March, 2001.

Tando is the only manned island in Muan-an. More than 50 residents are living in the island. When the tide is low, the huge foreshore appears, connecting Tando and Jogeumnaru.
It takes less than one hour to look around the shore of Tando. The highest peak is only 50 meters high. Most of the land is for growing vegetables.
Tando is a favorite fishing spot for anglers from all over the country. Octopuses and seeweed from the nearby foreshore are known to have been served for the king. Tando is a great place to experience a typical fishing village in Korea.
