A guy whose family name is Gimhae Kim is known to have first lived in the island. The island got its name because he found that there was a lot of coal in the island. Rice, beans, garlics, radishes, spinach, onions, sesame are produced in Tando. Crabs, Shrimps, basses, abalones are caught at the nearby sea. There is a ship bound for Tando at Jogeumnaro, Songhyeon-ri, Mangun-myeon. The Island is 2.5 kilometers away from the port. The elementary school in Tando was shut down in March, 2001.
