Detailed Description
Doripo is a small port with many sushi restaurants fronting it. It is adjacent to the Chilsan Sea , which is located between the borders of Young Gwang and Hampyeong Counties. It is famous for sea fishing, as the sea is abundant with snappers and sea bass. Recently, it has been designated as a national historic site, with the excavation of 639 Koryo celadon porcelains from the nearby sea. As with other famous sunrise sites in the west coast, Doripo also extends towards the sea, providing a magnificent view of the sunrise. In the winter, the sun rises from the seaside of Hampyeong, and in the summer, the sun rises from the mountainside of Young Gwang. The sunset to the Chilsan Seaside opposite Doripo port is also magnificent. This is one of the few locations where the sunrise and sunset can be observed clearly from one spot. Recently, a lighthouse which looks like a octopus, has been built.
